HBO Max is a new subscription video-on-demand service. It is a multi-platform product accessible from many devices such as smartphones, connected TVs, home game consoles or Google Chromecast. However, HBO Max does not exist as a Windows app. There is, however, a trick to “create” the HBO Max app for Windows 10 yourself.

The method we present in this article is to use Progressive Web Applications or PWA. A PWA is a website or web page that can be copied to a device’s system as if it had been installed. The created app has its own shortcut that redirects directly to the web page. This shortcut can be pinned to the Windows taskbar.

In short, the manipulation involves converting the HBO Max site into a Windows 10 application. For this, we will use the new browser Edge (Chromium) of Microsoft.

Install HBO Max on Windows 10

  1. Use Microsoft Edge ?

    Launch the Microsoft Edge (Chromium) browser and then go to the https://play.hbomax.com/.

  2. Create a Max HBO ?

    If you haven’t subscribed to HBO Max yet, create an from this page. If you already have an HBO , log on to the platform.

  3. Install HBO Max as PWA ?

    To install HBO Max on your PC, you have to go to the Microsoft Edge menu and then to Install this site as an app.

  4. Complete installation ✅

    Click the “Install” button on the new dialog box that opens.

The app will launch automatically as in the next image. You can easily find it from the Start menu, typing “HBO Max”.

    I have the latest version of Microsoft Edge Chromium. Was updated in January of this year. It will not play videos on HBO Max. My speed is 32.3 and up load is 17.7. History and cookies have been cleared. It says cannot play title. Tried to use Google Chrome, but it only started and stopped, started and stopped. I was using a home computer with a router.

      I went to the apps section of the Microsoft Edge, and there is an option that says install this site as an app.

    Pedro and others, here’s a step-by-step, and works the same for Windows 10 or 11:

    1. Open Edge browser and go to hbomax.com
    2. Sign in using the link in the upper right on the HBO page (just like g in on any website) and ensure your works. If it doesn’t work in Edge, it won’t work after installing it as an app.
    3. In Edge, click on the three dots for the Settings menu or Press Alt+F
    4. Click on Apps or press A
    5. Click on “Install this site as an app”
    6. Edit the name and where the icon will appear, if you wish, and OK the window

    That’s it. Assuming you left Start menu selected in step 6, the HBO site will now be an app accessible from the Start menu in Windows 10 or 11.

    Hi

    I opened and logged in into HBO max, then I clicked on “+” in sidebar and on the top “Add Current page”
    HBO Max then appears on bottom of the sidebar. Next i clicked on three dots on the top right corner “…” ,
    menu “APPS” and then “install this site as app” .
